you looking to get hooked up with a college
sport? Great, but keep your options open
-- alternative sports programs abound at
college.
Dare
to Try a Different Sport

The
CollegeBound Network NewsClick -- Participating
in college sports can be an invigorating
and
life-enhancing experience. However, you
shouldn't feel limited to playing football,
basketball, or baseball, just because those
sports generally receive the most media
hype and campus buzz, especially if they
are a Division I team. Instead, consider
other sports programs your school may offer,
such as cheerleading, golf, fencing, and
wrestling.
Rah,
Rah... Go Team, Go!
If you like leaping in the air, can do back
handsprings and splits, and have school
spirit, you may be a tremendous asset to
your school's cheerleading team. And fellas,
you're included as well. That's right, male
compadres are known to move the crowd at
college games, too.
Cheerleading
is a spectacular sport that gives you a
great workout and promotes high self-esteem.
You can't help but drop the shy status when
you're responsible for getting your school
mates amped about the team scoring points,
forging onward to victory.
Swinging
on the Green
Do you have a swing that'll have golf pro
TIGER WOODS inviting you to join him on
the green? If so, following in the footsteps
of the Talented T could prove rewarding.
Although golf is a competitive sport, especially
on the pro level, where tournament prizes
number in the millions, you won't be
side-by-side with your opponent. You're
dealing with a take-turns sport. In other
words, you'll have time to concentrate on
your stroke without the interruption of
the competitor. The sport teaches you precision
and patience, and best of all, you won't
sweat up your gear while vying to win your
match. You'll be able to compete with a
calm, cool, and collected flow.
Have
You "Engarded" Your Sword Today?
Remember how Zorro whipped out his sharp
sword, stood at "attack" attention,
then kicked his antagonists' butt on the
silver screen? Sure, but good ol' Zorro
didn't earn points for exhibiting phenomenal
skills, nor win scholarships to help fund
his higher ed.' The good news? You can!
An added bonus is you'll be flexin' an even
cooler costume than the Z-man.
Taking
it to the Mat
THE ROCK and THE UNDERTAKER aren't the only
ones who can put the SmackDown! on
their wrestling, trash-talking adversaries.
If you wrestle for your school, you won't
get the chance to lock your opponent in
the sleeper hold, but you'll pin him/her
down as a result of your clever wrestling
moves. Because of the workout involved in
wrestling, you'll burn off a lot of unwanted
fat, too. Your endurance and stamina will
improve as well, as you'll have to go round-after-round
against your mat foe.
So
think of yourself as lucky to discover the
benefits of other college sports. Who knows...
you might be so good at one of them that
you'll earn some scholarship dough.
