College Aid is On Its Way
By Brian Murphy

The CollegeBound Network NewsClick -- Your credit card's
maxed out, your wallet's flatter then a fish cake, and your bank
account has more zeros then a bowl of Cheerios. The stress sets
in that you probably won't be able to tackle those tuition bills,
and you begin to contemplate dropping out. This consequence isn't
an option if you're a student at Wellesley College, Wellesley MA.
That's because the college has created a unique program designed
to keep students in school regardless of their bank roll.
Understanding the growing burdens of tuition bills and acknowledging
that no matter how many loan applications you've filled out or long
financial aid lines you've waited on, you sometimes just can't come
up with all the cash, the Wellesley College Aid Society steps up.
Supported solely by donations from alumni and friends, this group
of volunteers -- separate from the college -- works in unison with
the school's financial services to assist students with college
dollars. Their generosity includes loans and grants, but extends
much further with such things as a "Clothes Closet," where
students receive free winter attire, job interviews, and career
assistance, and "Welcome to Wellesley" gifts of notebooks
and bookstore vouchers.
Need a loan to pay for graduate application fees or to fix the
eyeglasses you stepped on while half asleep after studying all night?
What about a ride to that 'hope-I-get-this-job' interview? The Wellesley
College Aid Society helps in these regards, too. It's there to provide
funds for transportation in case of a family emergency or even something
as simple as footing the bill for a pocket dictionary for English
101. The aid society's got your back.
Be sure to check with our choice colleges to see if they offer
similar programs. When it comes to paying tuition and other higher
'ed bills, it's always great to receive help, especially when it's
available for the asking!
