Comedy Tour Lets You Laugh Your Cares Away!
By Lynda Kessler
October 2001
The CollegeBound Network NewsClick -- If you thought your economics
professor with the curly blond toupee was funny, you'd really
get a kick out of on-campus comedians who can split your spine with
tales of even more hilarious sightings. Thanks to Zilo Networks,
Inc.'s "Off the Hook" Comedy Tour, sponsored by General
Motors, Motorola, and Wrigley's Doublemint, the tour will hit 20
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) this fall.
"I
took the initiative to create this tour so that a new generation
of comedians can perform for a young audience, keeping with Zilo's
tradition of discovering and exposing new talent," says Campbell
McLaren, Zilo's director and co-founder.
The cool
deal about the 90-minute comedy show is that you won't sit around
listening to joke-lacking, yawn-inducing comics. These funnymen
are far from boring and stale. In fact, headlining this first-ever
type of tour is veteran comic Shang, best known for his social/political
and poetic performances on BET's "Comic View" and as host
of BET's "Keep It Real," as well as from guest appearances
on "The Jamie Foxx Show" and "Parent Hood."
Also on the "Off the Hook" lineup: Comedian Tony Woods,
who's appeared on "Def Comedy Jam," "Comic View,"
and at the Apollo; Chris Thomas, from BET's "Rap City"
and HBO special "Chez Woopie;" and Todd Lynne, another
"Comic View" and "Def Jam Comedy" favorite.
The comedy
tour will travel to HBCUs around the U.S., including Clark Atlanta
University, Florida A&M University, Texas Southern University, Howard
Universty, Temple University, and Grambling University.
If you're
wondering whether you'll get a chance to put some serious laughter
into your scholastic life, check Zilo's official Web site (see Related
Reads). And if the tour doesn't make it to your school, you can
always use the event as an excuse to load up your collegemates for
a road trip to see the show!
