Save Cash While Traveling
This Summer!

The CollegeBound Network NewsClick -- If you're
like many students who look forward to hitting
the road when summer makes its seasonal debut
(verifying your three-month school break), then
you know the cost of frequent travel around the
globe can be somewhat expensive.
Don't unpack your bags
just yet, though. There's a program especially
designed to assist you in saving lots of cash
on your summer excursions. It's called the Student
Advantage (SA) Program, and travel companies like
Greyhound Lines and US Airways (among others),
have joined the cause for cost-effective travel
-- while offering other money-saving goodies as
well.
According to Ricardo Rodriguez,
a marketing manager for Greyhound, "Most
of our students take the bus several times a year
and they want to [be able to] save money. [By
taking part] in the Student Advantage program,
they really get good use out of it. All we are
doing is making the trip a little better."
That's because with Greyhound's
program, says Rodriguez, SA-carded students can
save 15 percent off of a bus ticket if purchased
at the ticket counter for same-day departure or
within a few days -- one-way and roundtrip!
Plus, membership in the program only costs $20
(plus tax) per academic year.
If you're looking to buy
a roundtrip ticket that's $109, for instance,
you'll only pay $93.65 with your SA card. That
means you can bank the $16.35 you'll save to use
toward your next trip. It's a win-win situation!
In addition, if you've
got books, clothes, furniture, or any other school-related
items you'd like to ship back home, you can do
so for half off. In other words, you'll only pay
half the shipping cost to send your personals
with Greyhound Package Express using your Student
Advantage membership.
Your SA card will also
afford you savings on student-savvy purchases,
such as discounts on supplies from Staples,
marked-down prices on sneakers from Foot Locker,
and CD deals from Tower Records.
"There are always
ways to save money through the Student Advantage
card, and Greyhound is one of the vehicles to
do so," says Rodriguez.
