Celebs do more than grace
the covers of magazines and look good for the
public eye. They also give back to those less
fortunate.

Everybody loves WWF's THE ROCK, right?! Of course.
He's a champion in the eyes of pro-wrestling fans
because he knows how to get the crowd pumped with
his skilled wrestling ring antics. But if you
really smell what The Rock is cooking, you know
it's a delicious concoction of goodwill, great
showmanship, and a visible determination to be
all that he can be (and he's not even trying to
get into the U.S. Army).
What
is that smell, you ask?! Well, when The Rock isn't
performing his powerful suplex, figure-four, or
sleeper-hold moves, he's visiting terminally ill
children as part of his commitment to the Make-A-Wish
Foundation.
And
he's not alone in his efforts to give back a portion
of his time to organizations that seek to make
a difference. Many other celebs are lending their
time and energy to worthwhile volunteer causes.
Take
PRINCE WILLIAM, heir to the thrown of England,
for instance. He could easily spend his time enjoying
the riches and elite lifestyle for which he is
privileged. Instead, he recently opted to scrub
toilets (not normally befitting someone of his
status), among other domestic duties, as part
of a community service project to help the isolated
and neglected Chilean village of Tortel.
This
endeavor was one of many in which Prince William
and 109 other volunteers committed to during a
10-week expedition of charity work for underdeveloped
parts of the world -- even though their lives
were oftentimes at risk from terrible weather
conditions and disease.
One
night, in particular, Prince William's camp caught
on fire as a result of the torrential winds that
blew onto the coastal border. However, this didn't
phase him in the least -- upward and onward seemed
to be his motto. In fact, it's reported that Prince
William had a blast on his venture. No wonder
-- the work he did helped to make the lives of
young children a lot brighter. In the end, his
mission was accomplished.
Onstage
teen pop singer JEWEL seems to blow our minds
with her sassy 'in-ya-ear' vocals. But off stage,
she warms our hearts with her sincere efforts
to assist people of developing countries with
obtaining the same clean, fresh water that those
in the United States enjoy drinking. She's doing
this through an organization she founded called
Clearwater Project of Higher Ground for Humanity.
For just an $8 donation, a person in a developing
country can have a year's supply of drinkable
water. And, for $48, a family of six can drink
clean water. In return for donations, Jewel provides
an exclusive online concert at Netaid.org.
Other
celebs, including FIONA APPLE, MANDY MOORE, CHRISTINA
AGUILERA, *NSYNC, and DAVID GALLAGHER also have
their hands in community service-oriented projects.
So
there you go... there's glitz and glitter when
it comes to these stars, but they also give their
time to help others sparkle and shine, too. So
should you!
