The
CollegeBound Network NewsClick -- Maintaining a 4.0 GPA in
college is no easy task. It requires many long hours of study,
hard work, and oftentimes, many cups of coffee! Add a full-time
sports committment to that, and getting those As may seem
like an even bigger challenge, right?
Not
for Ron Simone. He scores big in the classroom and on the
field as a fullback for the football team at Rutgers University,
New Brunswick, NJ. In fact, Ron was recently chosen for First
Team Academic, All Big East, along with three of his teammates
for exhibiting awesome academic and athletic skills.
So,
how does he handle his dual duties? "One of most important
things besides doing your work is forming a relationship with
your professors," says Ron. "You need to show them
that you're willing to put in the extra time and effort. They'll
appreciate that and be willing to help you in return. I guess
athletes oftentimes have difficulty finding balance between
studying their playbooks and their textbooks."
Although
it's easy to get lost in the crowd at a major state school
like Rutgers, Ron is an exception. His take-action attitude
helps him aim high in the classroom -- oftentimes making a
difference between earning As and Bs. "In class, I get
myself noticed," he says. "I ask questions, and
show that I'm interested in what we're studying. I'm not afraid
to get help from the people around me. And, I meet with tutors,
ask friends questions, and get help from family members to
ensure that I get my work done [correctly]."
While
getting assitance from all of your available resources is
definitely a smart way to stay on top of the grades game,
the bottom line is: Great academic results come from evaluating
what things are important to you, and then prioritizing them
in order to maximize your scholastic success.
Take
notes from Ron. "A lot of my success just comes down
to managing my time well!"
