Chris
Klein is skating his way to success this month with the MGM
release of Rollerball. This lead role adds to Klein's
impressive list of hit flicks, including Election,
American Pie, and American Pie 2. What's interesting
to know is that all of the star-quality work Klein has been
doing comes in addition to his stellar scholastic triumphs
at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, TX, where he was
a dramatic arts major.
Klein's
meeting with celebrity destiny (his classmates voted him "Most
Likely to Become Famous") happened while working out
at Millard West High School, Millard, NE, where he played
football. Director Alexander Payne was scouting locations
for Election when he decided to travel back to his
alma mater to see what Millard had to offer in its students.
Let's
just say Klein's character and acting ability outweighed any
decision Payne could have had for selecting another role-specific
actor. Klein secured the role a mere few weeks into his first
semester of college.
How
appropriate that Klein is a good guy in Rollerball -- as he
is a devout Christian and practices what he preaches.
The
film, also starring rapper/actor LL Cool J, singer Pink, and
Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. The movie is about the notorious renegade
sport of rollerball, and the treachery and corruption that
ensues. Klein's character (Jonathan Cross) seeks to expose
the underhandedness of the team's owner.
As
much as Klein feels that getting a college education presents
limitless possibilities, he's going to concentrate on his
film career right now -- though he hopes to one day return
to earn a bachelor's degree.
His
next film will be We Were Soldiers, co-starring veteran
actor Mel Gibson. And, there's more where that came!
