Don't
think it's possible to excel at academics and
athletics at the same time? Guess again. See how
one student is scoring big time in the classroom
and on the basketball court!
Stacy Jastrzembski:
She's a "Slam Dunk" Super Student-Athlete

The CollegeBound Network NewsClick -- Shame
on the person who calls Stacy Jastrzembski a dumb
jock. Her status is far from that. In fact, Stacy,
a junior at Seton Hill College, Greensburg, PA,
is conquering her studies, community service,
campus involvement, and oh yeah, the basketball
court -- all at once!
It's hard enough for some
college students to handle the work load of one
major -- studying four could be a complete overload.
Well, not for Stacy. She has a double major in
Information Management and Marketing, and a double
minor in Computer Science and Spanish. "It covers
all of the areas I ever wanted to study," says
Stacy. And guess what? She currently maintains
a 3.91 grade point average.
Stacy's love of learning
knows no boundaries -- not even international
ones! This summer, Stacy will put her Spanish
speaking know-how to the test when she travels
to Madrid to participate in a six-week internship
through American University. The go-getter that
she is, Stacy found out about this opportunity
while working as an internship coordinator in
Seton Hill College's Career Development Office.
"I wanted to speak the language
with perfection," says Stacy. "I felt the best
way to do this would be to go to a Spanish-speaking
country and immerse myself in the culture."
Although Stacy is hyped about
her trip, she hasn't allowed it to take her focus
away from campus activities. She is involved in
volunteer projects like Labor Day's Day of Service
and Martin Luther King Day. And, as the president
of the Student Government Association, she is
gearing up to visit several local colleges, including
St. Vincent, Carlo College, Point Park, and Michael
Morris, to speak with other SGA officials and
representatives about how they run their organizations
and how they can work together to improve student
government as a whole.
Let's not forget her hoop
skills. The 5'10" guard and captain for Seton
Hill's women's basketball team, is the team's
second leading scorer, averaging 19 points a game.
And, she is the third leading scorer for the American
Mideast Conference. Last December, she scored
her 1,000th point!
Stacy admits that she has
a lot on her plate, but says she is successful
at staying on top of everything through careful
time management. "I fell behind before and it
was no fun," says the now-wiser student-athlete.
That's why she advises you to stay on top of your
studies and extra curricular activities. "Learn
how to budget your time," Stacy suggests. "Keep
up on your work, but learn how to relax as well."
