They
may not walk the red carpet at awards shows, but two campus DJs
are commanding a fan following because they're good at what they
do.

The CollegeBound Network NewsClick -- Do
you ever wonder why your roommate flips the radio on and like clockwork,
turns the dial to your college radio station immediately after hopping
out of bed each morning? Are you clueless as to her reason for skipping
a night out with the girls just to listen to the 'Oldies but Goodies'
show? The reason she avidly tunes in is because her favorite campus
DJ knows how to get her pumped up and inspired for another grueling
day of lectures and labs, not to mention mellow her out once the
school day is done.
Now that you're in tune' with your roommiate's perspective, find
out why two college DJs from New York City make it their mission
to satisfy their college customers...
Michael Thomas, a.k.a. "Majestic"
Majestic enthusiastically works his magic every Thursday at 10 p.m.
on Long Island University's Brooklyn campus station, WLIU 88.1 FM.
His show, The Flipside, gives students a different perspective on
things, says Majestic, who works for the station, but is a junior
business major at the nearby Audrey Cohen College. "I try to
encourage them to think positively [about issues] they generally
wouldn't consider."
His secret to commanding an average of 25 callers per show? "I
give the students variety," he proudly boasts. "I let
them hear other tracks [of a CD] that offer different sides of the
artists."
Majestic also plays music with positive and uplifting messages.
His theory is that if he can influence postive actions in his listeners
through the music he spins, he will have contributed to their academic
and lifelong success.
David Currie
David, a junior philosophy major and host of Day Break Express for
Columbia University's 88.9 FM, also places a strong emphasis on
providing quality music to his college listeners. That's one of
the reasons why he continues to command the popular music slot of
Friday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
"It makes me feel good when I can put good music out there
for students to listen to," says David. "It's about putting
together music that flows. That puts the hype in the show."
Both Majestic and David aren't the only campus DJs making a difference
in their programming while reeling in an impressive listening base.
After all, it's for the good of the students, right?!
Another benefit to these campus DJs gigs? The experience is a great
résumé booster. And, when potential employers read
over Majestic and David's skills and responbilities, they'll be
impressed at the experience these guys have -- and they won't dare
second-guess their qualifications.
Hey Mr. DJ... keep the music coming and the skills growing!
