Wyoming State Universities: The Power of One
by Elise Zito
If you're looking to earn your College degree in the great state of Wyoming, then chances are there's only one place you have in mind. That's right -- one. In the "Cowboy State," it's not Wyoming universities, it's the Wyoming university. Confused? Let us spell it out for you...
The University of Wyoming (UW, Laramie, WY) is the state's one and only four-year institution of higher learning. The University is also linked with seven community or Junior colleges, but when it comes to earning a typical bachelor's degree, Wyomingites have but one campus to visit. So, if your heart is set on being immersed in the state's sweeping plains and Rocky Mountain vistas, and still being surrounded by countless

, then you're out of luck. But, if numbers aren't as important to you, then you may be looking in the right spot.
Although students hoping to attend Wyoming state universities only have one option, that single choice might be just what you need to simplify your life. And the University of Wyoming's campus is so cool that it beats out all the other umm, zero universities in Wyoming. Ever heard of Grammy Award-winning Nickel Creek, popular country/folk music group? Well, this spring, they'll be gracing the stage of this most happening campus of all the Wyoming universities. And, for all you anthropology and earth science buffs, how many colleges can attest to having their very own Geological Museum, complete with dinosaur exhibits and fossil, rock, and mineral specimens? UW's College of Arts and Sciences offers courses in anything from chemistry and astrophysics, to music performance and creative writing.
Academics and Campus life aside, if being surrounded by some of the country's most beautiful places to visit is something that appeals to you, then UW may be right up your ally. Six national forests, each one stretching for miles, as well as Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park, are just a few of Wyoming's natural beauty and wildlife treasures, not to mention fun-filled weekend destinations for the nature- and adventure-loving college student.
We've all heard that it's quality, not quantity that matters, and in this case, that statement holds true. No, one isn't the loneliest number when it comes to Wyoming Colleges and Universities. In fact, the state's one university probably packs more power into its campus, curriculum, and resources than if there were a whole stampede of Wyoming state universities to choose from.
