Tooting Her Own Horn
by Paul D. Rosevear
One down, and one to go. That's the story of actress
MICHELLE HORN
, who just got her first big break starring alongside BRUCE WILLIS in Miramax's drama, "Hostage". But the other big break she's waiting for is that ever--elusive college acceptance. We can all relate to the pressures of that college acceptance audition.
CB Teen caught up with the 17--year--old rising star about her acting and academic careers.
CB Teen: What college would you like to attend?
MH: I'm not 100 percent sure, so I'm applying everywhere I think I could possibly want to go. But I'm from California, so the University of California (Los Angeles, CA) is a pretty practical choice. I've thought about New York University (New York, NY). But with my career, I'm focused on doing TV and movies, which is more of a California thing, [whereas] there are more theaters in New York.
CB Teen: So are you tempted to focus completely on acting, instead of school?
MH: Well, nothing is technically stopping me from doing that, but I'd really like to go to college. I think it would be fun, and I'd like to meet new people and study acting. It just seems like the whole experience would be awesome.
CB Teen: Have you ever taken acting classes?
MH: I've taken private lessons before, and I've really enjoyed them. When you're on set, you rarely get to work with kids your own age, so it's cool to be in a class with 15 others the same age as me. Plus, everyone there is really focused on learning and developing their craft, which is important to me.
CB Teen: Do the people in your high school look at you differently now that you've made a major motion picture?
MH: Truthfully, I don't think many of them know I'm in a movie. Most know that I'm an actress, but they're not really phased by it at all.
CB Teen: What character do you play in "Hostage"?
MH: I play a girl named Jennifer Smith who's a snotty rich girl. She definitely gets put in her place when she gets held hostage. I can't give too much away, but she's a tough girl and the film is really thrilling.
CB Teen: Speaking of being tough, what's your secret to surviving the competitive world of Hollywood?
MH: Basically, all you can do is be prepared. Know your character, and you can't go wrong. The fact that I get any job is something I'm proud of.
CB Teen: What if you get to college and decide you don't want to act? What else might you study?
MH: I think I'd still be something in [show] business - maybe a costumer. It takes so many people to make a movie that there are tons of jobs you probably wouldn't even think of.
