Tales from Regional Colleges

by Ysolt Usigan
There are many regional colleges across the nation. Each region in the U.S. offers attending students different things. From different surroundings to special programs, students should consider region as one criteria during their college selection process. Since there are so many regional colleges to choose from, it's best to think about which regions fit best in your lifestyle, and which regions offer programs of your interest.

The Showbiz West
Can you picture yourself attending one of several regional universities alongside houses of the rich and famous? Regional colleges in Hollywood, CA like Ameritech Colleges, the Concorde Career Institute, the Marinello School of Beauty, Modern Technology College, and the Sound Master Recording Engineer School can provide the proper training you need for a career in the arts and sciences.

For instance, aspiring music techs and broadcasters can attend the Los Angeles Recording Workshop, a two-year private school. Upon scholastic completion, graduates won't have to go far for employment since showbiz is right outside the school's doubledoors. And if you don't want to be in the heart of Hollywood, there are many other regional universities to choose from in the Los Angeles area.

The Gorgeous South
From the sunshine state (Florida) to the heart of dixie (Alabama), regional universities in the south are nothing to sneeze at. Aspiring architects and engineers can attend the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, GA) for the impressive school's College of Architecture and College of Engineering.

Teachers and business pros in training can go to Auburn University (Auburn, AL) for a stellar education in their specific fields, as well as gain familiarity across various disciplines in liberal arts. And when it comes to medicine, music, and education, University of South Carolina's (Columbia, SC) programs in these respective fields will lay strong foundation for future doctors and nurses, musicians and producers, and teachers. And all the while, living and trekking across campus in gorgeous weather and beautiful surroundings.

The Liberal Northeast
Many regional universities in the northeast boast great programs in the liberal arts. Students attend regional collegs in the northeastern region and study everything from humanities to natural and social sciences. By preparing to lead fulfilled and examined lives, students who study liberal arts in the northeast can assume roles as creative and intelligent members of society.

At Boston University (Boston, MA), for instance, there are 23 departments within their bachelors of arts programs. The interdisciplinary degree programs and independent concentraitons they offer help prepare undergrads for the next step -- whether it involves working within a careers or pursuing graduate studies.

We only covered some U.S. regions here. But keep in mind, the world is your oyster, and there's even more to choose from out there when it comes to regional colleges in the U.S. (and beyond). Your first step is to research. What you read here thus far was a good start. Continue exploring regional universities and their unique offerings!
