Scoring Specialty Scholarships

Scholarships
are available for every specialty under the sun. So if you already know which career direction you're headed, there's a good chance of finding an organization that will pay your way! Sample the variety of college scholarship offerings in these hot fields.
Computer scholarships
The Google Anita Borg Scholarship (www.google.com/anitaborg) was created to encourage women to excel in computing and technology and become active role models and leaders. Scholarships are awarded based on the strength of candidates' academic background and demonstrated leadership. Candidates must be full-time computer science, computer engineering, or related technical field majors entering their senior year of college or enrolled in a graduate program at a U.S. university. Scholarship application requirements include short essays, an official college transcript, and recommendation letters.
A group of undergraduate and graduate student finalists will be selected for phone interviews with Google selection committee members. Each scholarship winner will receive a $10,000 college scholarship; each remaining finalist will receive a $1,000 college scholarship. Scholarship recipients and finalists will also be invited to California to visit Google headquarters for a networking retreat. Deadline: February 1, 2008
Aviation scholarships
The Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) Educational Foundation (www.aea.net/educationalfoundation/scholarship.asp) offers annual scholarships to students seeking careers in the aircraft electronics and aviation maintenance industry. Twenty-four avionics technician and aircraft maintenance scholarships are available for high school seniors and/or college students who plan to attend or are attending an accredited school in an avionics or aircraft repair program. Students pursuing aviation management may apply for the foundation's Chuck Peacock Memorial Scholarship. Scholarship application requirements include short-answer questions, an essay, and an official high school/college transcript.
Numerous AEA College Scholarships are available and range from $500 to more than $35,000 each. Deadline: February 15, 2008
Spa scholarships
The International Spa (ISPA) Foundation's Mary Tabacchi Scholarship (www.experienceispa.com/ISPA/foundation/mary+tabacchi+scholarship), created in 2006, will be awarded to a part- or full-time undergraduate student who has completed at least one year of college and is seeking a two- or four-year spa-related degree with a demonstrated interest in spa management. Scholarship application requirements include college transcripts, recommendation letters, and an essay section to outline skills, qualifications, and personal and professional goals.
The winner will receive a $2,500 college scholarship, as well as registration, airfare, and hotel accommodations to attend the ISPA Conference & Expo or ISPA Asia-Pacific Conference. Deadline: March 1, 2008
