Reap the Benefits of Regionally Accredited Colleges

by Paul D. Rosevear
It's a fact -- studying at regionally accredited colleges affords students the widest range of opportunities once they've earned their degree. Simply put, accreditation means that the school's academic programming measures up to a certain universal standard set forth by accrediting agencies. Most schools do have some form of accreditation, but before you commit to attending one, it's best that you find out what type - if any - your schools of choice have.

Regionally accredited universities offer more than just an education that meets a high standard. A degree earned at an accredited institution will offer you unlimited potential for graduate work and transfer credits. If you don't study at a regionally accredited university, there are no guarantees that the credits you earned will be valid elsewhere.

Additionally, regionally accredited colleges are eligible for participation in federal and state financial aid programs. If you're interested in obtaining financial assistance of some sort for your education, a regionally accredited university is going to offer you the maximum amount of options. After all, the government is agreeing to help you pay for your studies - you might as well take them up on the offer if you've got the chance!

There are six regional accrediting agencies that review and evaluate the academic programs offered at schools across the country. They are: The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, The New England Association of Schools and Colleges, The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and The Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

In total, there are approximately 6,900 postsecondary educational institutions and programs accredited by a regional agency or accreditation recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. Start your search for a regionally accredited university today!
