Oklahoma Colleges and Universities

As a student in Oklahoma, there's plenty to keep you busy. Whether it's music festivals, rodeos and pow wows, a walk through history, food festivals, or craft shows, your classroom isn't just on campus.

The nearly 230,000 students who enroll each year at Oklahoma's regionally accredited public and private colleges and universities can attest to that. Even better, tuition at
Oklahoma colleges and universities is considerably lower than average tuition at similar institutions in other states.

Besides the money factor, there are other attractions to pique your interest in universities in Oklahoma. They include the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, the Will Rogers Memorial in Claremore, the Cherokee Cultural Center with a restored Cherokee village, the restored Fort Gibson Stockade near Muskogee, the Lake Texoma recreation area, pari-mutuel horse racing at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, and Blue Ribbon Downs in Sallisaw.

While there's lots of fun to be had (think the kitschy Route 66 icons or the state's top-rated zoos), "extra credit" activities range from historic sites to art museums.

Of course, part of your decision to attend college in Oklahoma hinges on if it will help you in your future career. The good news is there are plenty of organizations in the state to help professionals find their place in the workforce, so you won't have to tackle the job hunt alone.

Take the Oklahoma Aviation and Aerospace Educational Alliance, for instance. It provides students with the opportunity to enroll in and receive college credit for programs specifically designed to meet the workforce needs of the aviation and aerospace industry, such as power frame, airframe, avionics, and airport management.

Then there's the fact that the State Regents and Southwestern Bell are currently working together to form a telecommunications alliance with Oklahoma colleges and universities. What's more is that of the 25 occupations projected to grow the fastest in Oklahoma during the 1998-2008 time period, the top four are IT/computer-related, with listings in health care, social services, and engineering represented as well. That all spells out plenty of opportunity! Learn more about universities in Oklahoma today.
