New York Colleges and Universities
by Paul D. Rosevear
New York is the city that never sleeps -- probably because students at New York universities are always studying. From Ivy League private universities to Princeton Review-ranked public universities, the Big Apple is chock full of fantastic academic opportunities. Campuses span the five boroughs -- and obviously the number of schools is only a fraction of the social, cultural, and education opportunities that await you. In fact, many New York universities claim the city becomes an extension of a student's education.
Union Square is best known for a number of hip restaurants, a must for budding chefs, and certainly a perk for anyone who likes a good meal. Midtown Manhattan houses Madison Square Garden, the Garment District, Rockefeller Center, the Theater District, and Times Square. Known to native New Yorkers as tourism central, this is the city's biggest hotel neighborhood -- perfect for those wishing to pursue a career in hotel or restaurant management.
If media is your specialty, then Times Square is your locale. It's always buzzing with activity, and is the epicenter of many of your favorite TV studios and magazines -- including MTV Studios and Good Morning America -- should you wish to intern while attending New York colleges.
The Garment District runs along Seventh Avenue, and this is where great fashions are sold cheap -- and where the next Marc Jacobs or Donna Karan may be stitching away in one of the district's many classrooms at universities in New York.
High fashion may not be your thing, but everyone can appreciate a work of high art. Those wishing to pursue the arts can head to Museum Mile on Fifth Avenue near Central Park. There you'll find the Guggenheim and Metropolitan Museum of Art, and maybe inspiration for your own masterpiece.
You can't go to New York and not marvel at the buildings. Future architects will study the Chrysler Building, Grand Central Terminal, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and the Empire State Building.
In addition, New York schools house some of the best university-backed research centers in the world in the areas of medicine, science, arts, and humanities.

How about some bricks & mortar colleges? I guess the online colleges pay more than the bricks & mortar colleges so that's who you highlight? Your site was a lot better when my sister was looking for a college. by Major Ng submitted on Aug 3, 2009

There are currently thousands of profiles there of all types of schools, from traditional ones that you may prefer, community colleges, career schools, online programs (they *are* popular with everyone's busy schedules, LOL), etc.
Good luck in your search,
