Kentucky may be a commonwealth, but there's nothing common about its educational offerings. In addition to traditional universities, there's also a unique system of 2 year colleges in Kentucky, where students are offered a variety of different programs in which they can attain accreditation. Many Roofs, One Big Opportunity
Thanks to the Kentucky Postsecondary Education Improvement Act of 1997, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) was founded to offer students the ability to move between various programs and colleges. Now encompassing 50 campuses from various Kentucky 2 year colleges all over, the system boasted more than 60,000 students during the fall term of 2005.

And it's no wonder... Students are offered a variety of valuable programs covering a multitude of different professions. From studying dental hygiene at Big Sandy Community and Technical School (Prestonsburg, KY), to learning about engineering technology at Bowling Green Technical College (Bowling Green, KY), students at 2 year colleges in Kentucky can count on the training that they need to successfully enter the workforce after Graduation.

Earning Credit Toward the Future
Many of the 2 year colleges in Kentucky encourage students to continue their studies at conventional 4 year universities. Big Sandy Community and Technical School, for example, has "2 + 2" agreements with assorted Kentucky universities and colleges, which allow students to transfer their credits towards earning a bachelor's and even a master's degree in programs like Business technology and early childhood education.

Also, the KCTCS annually selects two top students from each of its 16 schools as members of their All-Academic Team. These students are then honored for their academic achievement and offered scholarships to attend public and private universities in Kentucky.

Continued Career Support
At Sullivan University students are given extra support and training throughout their development and pursuit of a career. At the university's National Center for Hospitality Studies, for example, students don't just practice their skills inside the classroom. Seniors who have studied in the culinary and hotel/restaurant disciplines prepare and serve meals at Winston's Restaurant, the school's three and a half star gourmet restaurant.

Once students have graduated they can count on the Graduate Employment Services Office to aid in their Job search. This service helps them locate positions nationwide, and is available to them for free as many times as they need. In addition, the university allows graduates to return at any time to repeat a previous course, at no cost.

Attending a 2 year college in Kentucky is not just a means for getting a degree but an assurance of continued success and increased opportunities. Whether acting as a bridge into further schooling, or entering the workforce, a Kentucky 2 year college will provide you with the options you need.
