Florida State Universities: Sunshine & Super Studies Abound

With a nickname like "The Sunshine State," Florida's warm, sunny climate provides an ideal atmosphere for prospective college students who don't want to worry about bringing four sets of clothes with them for fall, winter, spring, and summer. Those who choose to attend Florida colleges and universities will only have to prepare for two seasons; a long, hot summer, and a very mild winter.

Aside from the state's balmy weather, there are more than 1,200 sandy beaches along Florida's 1,800 miles of coastline. So, you won't have to travel very far to find a relaxing spring break getaway. Or, you can attend one of the several Florida state universities located right on the coast, and have the beach at your fingertips throughout the school year.

Of course, Florida universities have so much to offer beyond the natural surroundings. Florida's colleges are teeming with cool academic programs and student lifestyle perks as well. Check out the following universities in Florida, all of which provide a unique, exciting college experience.

In fact, U.S. News & World Report's 2006 "Best Colleges" guide has ranked ERAU number one in the Aerospace/Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering category for the sixth year in a row. The school's Advanced Flight Simulation Center offers the best in flight simulation technology, allowing you to experience the inside of an actual cockpit before you've even had the chance to try out your wings.

University of North Florida
Location: Jacksonville, FL

If European travel is on your list of things to accomplish while at college, then be sure to consider the University of North Florida. For two weeks this summer, one of the school's professors will be teaching a course on a train, and this isn't just any old choo-choo ride. The students who participate in the course, called "Trainsforming through Europe," will ride the EuroRails all over the continent, stopping for a taste of the local cultures in Paris, Munich, Rome, and Spain. During their adventures, they'll be listening to regional music by the Beatles, Sex Pistols, and Mozart, as well as reading and re-enacting famous works of literature, and discussing scientists who lived in the area like Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein.

With palm trees, beaches, tropical weather, and college credits in exchange for a train ride through Europe, it's hard to go wrong with an education at Florida state universities.
