Earning A's for College Sports?
by Dawn Papandrea
Ever heard of a college course called Football 101? How about Fundamentals of Basketball? Probably sounds like something many of you would jump at the chance to take right? Well, these classes actually do exist at some Division I colleges and universities -- but only for players who are actually on the college sports teams. Basically, schools are offering academic credit for participating in practice, games, and simply being a member of an intercollegiate team.
Fair or unfair? The opinions are mixed. Some believe that college athletes are entitled to get some credit, as they are working toward something that benefits the university and its students. Others believe it shows that winning is more important than academics to a university, which is wrong. How do you feel about this college sports controversy? What do you think is right?
