College To-Do List for March and April
by Dawn Papandrea
College Cash Awaits! Your applications are in, but that doesn't mean your search for a school stash should stop.Look into funding opportunities you didn't think of. Maybe your parents' employers sponsor a scholarship program, or your dad's community organization is just waiting for the right candidate to whom they can present a big fat check. Such opportunities often have rolling deadlines. You never know. Did you ask your choice schools if they offer merit scholarships or competitive exams that award tuition dollars? Get to it!
Get College Credit Before College If you're an AP student, now's crunch time. Yes, now. Just think, acing Advanced Placement exams can save you hundreds, maybe thousands in college tuition depending on how many credits your choice school awards for your score. With test dates in early May, it's a good idea to pick up a test guide (offered by companies such as Barrons) and start looking it over to get a sense of the exam's format. Surf over to CollegeBoard.org for their AP overview, sample questions, and other test tidbits.
No Slackin' Now! Once I'm in, I'm in, right? Many colleges and universities, especially the top-tier ones, request that you or your school send your last semester's final transcript. Why? To make sure you've continued your commitment to a challenging education. You wouldn't want to give them a reason to change their minds about your acceptance (like straight Ds), would you?
