College Statistics -- The Cold Hard Facts

by Paul D. Rosevear
It's a constantly evolving world, and the world of education is changing accordingly. Searching for

College statistics

can sometimes serve as a way to keep you informed on patterns and trends that are related to the advancement of your education. Information on a school's graduation rate, or freshman dropout rate, or job placement rate are usually available from searching the Web, and other university statistics are often provided by the school itself.

When you're searching for college statistics, you can also seek out sites other that the schools' pages. For example, www.securityoncampus.com is an independent Web site that collects university statistics from over 6,000 schools on all things related to on-campus safety. College statistics on criminal offenses, hate crimes, disciplinary referrals, and arrests are available from the U.S. Department of Education as well as the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting program.

Also, there are sites such as www.collegeresults.org which provide helpful university statistics on graduation rates for schools around the country. The site is run by The Education Trust, a national nonprofit that provides assistance and information for students of all ages, from pre-school through college.

A resource like The National Report Card on Higher Education, available at http://measuringup.highereducation.org/default.cfm, can provide you with university statistics about schools in a general geographic area, and how they have performed over the years.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics, part of the United States Department of Labor, can offer related university statistics on college enrollment rates among high school students and other more general background about patterns in post-high school students' education. That information can be found on the Bureau's Web site, www.bls.gov.

Beyond the Internet, there are plenty of guidebooks and magazines which can provide addition college statistics which may prove helpful when searching for the right college for you. Begin today!
