College Life in Los Angeles is All About Books, Brains and Beach-Bumming It

by Jackie Bondanza
BILLY JOEL once told us to say goodbye to Hollywood, but if you decide to attend one of the many colleges in Los Angeles, CA, you'll be saying hello.

Whether you're hoping to break into the acting and filmmaking industry or not, choosing to attend a

Los Angeles college

will grant you access to this intriguing and glamorous part of the city, as well as countless other areas that sit in Hollywood's geographic shadow.

A cultural melting pot that serves as the heartbeat of the aesthetically pleasing state of California, Los Angeles provides the idealized life. Valleys, cities, farmland, vineyards, and beaches dot Los Angeles' vicinity and offer an extensive variety of culture and flavor. Blue and gray mountains protect a zigzagged coast of beaches, where surfers play hard and beach bums doubling as college students brush up on Shakespeare.

Los Angeles colleges are ideal for those academically focused types, as well as for adventuresome travel-lovers, since access to the entire state of California, a beautiful 158,402 square miles of scenic beauty, is easy from the LA area. This seemingly endless terrain of culturally diverse land is flavored with Mexican zest and historical landmarks that trace the area's Mexican heritage. Whether you're looking to take a quick visit to Napa for a wine tasting, or to spend a weekend barbequing and beaching it in San Diego, Los Angeles is more than willing to share you with neighboring beach towns and museum filled cities. You can also do that whole ski-and-surf-in-one-day thing (after you've finished your school Work, of course).

While it may be hard to concentrate on school when there are so many outdoor adventures to be had, Los Angeles colleges are competitive and require serious academic dedication. Because of the nature of their geographic location, and all the perks that come along with 365 days of sunny, 80-degree weather, Los Angeles colleges are quite popular. Although many Los Angeles universities, like Pepperdine and University of Southern California, are the more well known, there are a ton of other Los Angeles Colleges and Universities that offer quality educations without the bill that accompanies a private education. California state colleges, as a prime example, are a perfect alternative to attending a private Los Angeles university. The state has two systems: the California State system and University of California system - - both of which have a variety of campuses in the Los Angeles area.

So, if you're thinking of attending a Los Angeles college or university, check out the dozens of educational options available to you, and remember: play hard, but work harder.
