CB's Top 10 High School Movies (And Why I Love Them)

by Amanda Fornecker
Before you go off to college, relive your

high school

days with some of the best and most fun high school movies according to a CB staff writer. These are just some of my favorite movies and I've definitely got a few more. Here are the highlights.

So bad, it's good
Bring It On - This is a tale of how being cheer captain and taking advanced chem can be one of the trickiest businesses in high school town. But study hall does have its perks with cute new students, after all. Bring It On is also the greatest competition of all with some of the catchiest cheers, friendship, and love story woes.

Never Been Kissed - Reliving high school may sometimes be horrifying for many. But Never Been Kissed uses terms like "rufus" and Drew Barrymore is so socially awkward it's amazing. However, she goes from gawky to popular when her brother poses as a student to play baseball for the high school. It's a web of lies, intrigue, and scandal, especially when her teacher falls for her -- as a high school student.

Can't Hardly Wait - It might be because Jennifer Love Hewitt's character's name is Amanda that it's so great -- or so bad since everyone always says to me, "Well you're the one, AmanDUH, who's gonna be embarrassed. I mean, who's gonna want you now?!" Don't deny it -- you know you had Melissa Joan Hart's character walking around your high school parties with the yearbook asking you to sign it. Or was that you?

She's All That - It's the age-old story of boy meets girl, courts girl, and gets girl except Freddie Prinze Jr. only likes Rachel Leigh Cook because of a bet, at first. Of course he ends up falling for her after spending lots of time with her to win the bet. It's high school love at second sight.

Those kids are supposed to be in high school?!
Mean Girls - Did you know that Rachel McAdams was 26 when she filmed her role as 17-year-old Regina George?! Insane! The "coolest" girls at North Shore High befriend the new girl who's been homeschooled throughout her whole life. When she moves from South Africa to Illinois she learns more than just her calculus; she gets a cold, hard lesson on living outside -- or right in the middle -- of the jungle.

Grease - You may have heard that Grease is the word. This 70s flick has life lessons, music, bad boys, Pink Ladies, and innocent summer lovin' that transcends the decades and can always be applied to our very own high school memories.

Superbad - Jonah Hill was not a senior in high school when he portrayed the main young lad in Superbad -- he was actually a year older than I was when I graduated from college! This movie is so inappropriate you can't help but crack up -- are kids in high school really like that these days?!

I love the 80s...
Dead Poets Society - An English teacher goes against a prep school's standards to give students the lessons they may not have learned otherwise. The movie focuses on the stories of seven specific students and the very real lessons we get here about growing up are vital to anyone's high school days.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High - You'll find young versions of Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Forest Whitaker in this coming-of-age film. It is here that you'll find typical stereotypes abound - the surfer dude, the popular senior, the innocent freshman, and more. It's a fun comedy that has real issues and is very relatable to real life.

The Breakfast Club - Nothing is worse than detention for a high school student - except for suspension and expulsion, that is. But The Breakfast Club is a great story of the lives of five students who come to detention for different reasons. It's a typical high school story that always remains a classic!

Here are a few others that I love as well that definitely belong here with my faves for the high school list. You didn't think I'd forget these, did you? As if!
