Alaska Colleges and Universities

You may think of Alaska colleges as some of the coldest places on Earth. You may have never even imagined visiting, let alone entertaining the thought of attending an Alaska school, located in the largest state in the U.S. But Alaska colleges can certainly provide a great education, with a state school in three locations and private liberal arts and business Alaska colleges across the state. You're sure to get the education of your dreams in Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Juneau.

Alaska universities offer many different programs to suit your college needs. Degrees obtainable at most schools in the state include associate, bachelor's, master's, and baccalaureate. Specialties range from aviation technology to massage therapy for bachelor's, with culinary arts and nursing among popular two-year degrees at Alaska universities.

Juneau's campus of about 700 full-time and 2,000 part-time students provides a great experience like most Alaska colleges. In particular, Alaska universities in the state capital boast a lovely location along the shores, creating prime territory for marine biology and environmental science, a popular field of study at Alaska universities. Small classes are also a plus with individualized attention for students, no matter what age. Students at Alaska universities come from all different backgrounds, and defy stereotyping.

But it might not just be school that will attract you to Alaska colleges and universities. Although it is cold in the region, a common misconception is just how cold it actually is. The average temperature is actually around 20 degrees F, and only some parts of the state experience the "midnight sun" during the summer months with just a few hours of daylight during the winter months. While Alaska universities experience temperatures that may descend below zero for many areas, a culture rich with fishing, parks, and museums heats things up. Alaska universities offer education both inside and outside the classroom.

Like any other state, Alaska colleges and universities have their own customs and annual events. Among these are winter festivals, deemed the "Fur Rendezvous," and a baseball game that continues well past midnight without artificial light during the Summer Solstice. These unique traditions give Alaska colleges a fun and exciting feel.
For sure, Alaska colleges and universities provide a one-of-a-kind experience. And college is a time of learning new and exhilarating things something Alaska universities can certainly provide. If you want a truly unique experience, explore Alaska as a possibility. Although the 49th state has a cold climate, you'll never freeze with an experience as hot as being a student at an Alaska university!
