We sat glued to our TV sets in November 2004 as President George W. Bush and Senator John
Kerry battled over issues like taxes, homeland security, education, and ethics in the presidential debates and there was very little they could agree on. But there is one thing they did see eye to eye on -- the power of college sports and student athletics!

Many of America's most prominent and successful leaders spent quite a bit of time running, fielding, and hustling before they started debating, conferencing, and filibustering. "The world of college sports has shaped some of the lives of America's greatest leaders, teaching lessons of competition and sacrifice that translate for business and everyday success," says Brian Kilmeade, author of "The Games Do Count," and co-host of "FOX & Friends."

Here's what the candidates had to say on student athletics...
"The idea of people watching college sports and cheering for a team is part of our social fabric," says President Bush. "As a family, we may be involved in politics, but when we get together, the talk is usually about sports -- the fish we caught, the golf we played, things like that."

Fun fact: The prez' was part-owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team at one point. "[In college sports] you learn about discipline," says Senator Kerry. "You also learn how to dig deep inside yourself for something extra, if you need it. I think it made me a better naval officer, and in fact, it taught me a lot about politics."
