10,000 Volts of Teddy

by Paul D. Rosevear

TEDDY GEIGER

's hit single "For You I Will" off his debut album "Underage Thinking" easily climbed the charts, and with good reason. The 17-year-old singer-songwriter's intimate vocals, catchy melodies, and soaring acoustic pop are a hit with fans of JOHN MAYER and RYAN CABRERA. But beyond musical talent, Teddy has also put his good looks and acting abilities to use on CBS' "Love Monkey." CB Teen caught up with the rising star for a chat about music, movies, and electrical engineering.

Q: Tell us about "Love Monkey."
A:
My character's name is Wayne. He's an artist who just got signed by the main character on the show, who plays a [record label executive]. His story is a lot like mine, actually. While we were shooting the pilot for the show, we were working on my album, too.

Q: How did you get a record deal at such a young age?
A:
I was playing shows in my hometown, trying to get a deal. I met a producer named Billy Mann when I went on an audition for "In Search of the Partridge Family," which I basically did just because I wanted to get noticed for music. We stayed in contact and he shopped some of my demos to labels, and I wound up getting signed.

Q: How do you balance schoolwork with touring, recording, and filming?
A:
I have a few courses left and then I'll graduate from high school. When I got signed, I got a tutor. We met with my counselor and put together a plan for me to wrap up my requirements and take some exams to get my diploma.

Q: What are your future education goals?
A:
If I go to College, I won't go for music. My dad is an electrical engineer, so I've always been really interested in that. But I don't know for sure -- there are so many things out there to learn.

Q: How do you feel now that the record is out?
A:
It's so cool to see that what we've been working so hard on is finally coming out. To see ads for the album everywhere is great. I'm just glad to have had the opportunity to be involved in a project like this.

Q: So the hard work isn't getting to you?
A:
No, because I still love it. On tour, we have busy days of traveling, visiting radio stations, soundchecking, and then doing the show. I'm pretty tired at that point so I just grab some food and go to bed.
