10 Ways to Score Yourself a Sports Scholarship

Securing a sports
scholarship
at a College or university is not something that just happens... it requires work and planning. Allsport Recruiting Coordinators, a top recruiting advisor company, has developed a list of 10 things you should be aware of as a student athlete in order to land sports-related college Cash.
1. Maintain Good Grades. A high GPA is imperative if you want to participate in college athletics. Additionally, there are certain mandatory courses you must take. (Check the NCAA division requirements.)
2. Take college entry test(s) during your junior year. Know the minimum test score for your GPA level that will allow you to enter college. Failure to meet the minimum grades and test scores reduces your chances to participate in college athletics.
3. Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. They track and certify your eligibility.
4. Do more. Simply being a good athlete does not guarantee you a sports Scholarship. Get involved in other activities that interest you. Show potential colleges that you're more than just an athlete-show them that you're a well-rounded athlete!
5. Promote your own abilities. Don't wait for someone else to do this for you.
6. Be aware. Receiving a letter from a college/university does not guarantee you will be offered a scholarship. Many colleges start the year sending out 500-1,000 letters (sometimes even more) when they will only offer a few scholarships.
7. Work with your high school coach to the maximum degree possible. Nearly all colleges will contact them for an evaluation of you.
8. Remember this fact: A commitment is not binding until National Signing Day.
9. Keep in mind that your ability to play ball in a specific collegiate level is based upon your talent and skills. Speed, quickness, strength, ball handling, shooting range, and shooting percentage are a few of the items college coaches review in determining if you will fit into their program.
10. Maintain a winning attitude and commitment to being a student-athlete. An excellent athlete with a poor attitude and little or no commitment reduces your opportunities for being offered a sports scholarship.
