10 Steps to Scholarship Snatchin'
by Dawn Papandrea
We checked in with the experts at WiredScholar.com for their tips on taking the Scholarship cake. Ready? Go...
1. Don't be a cheat. Include only true info about your grades and accomplishments on your scholarship applications.
2. Talk to some winners. Find out what worked for students who already scored the
scholarships
you're after.
3. Follow instructions. That means stay within essay word counts, submit all of the materials requested, and meet scholarship deadlines.
4. Be an early bird. Getting your app' in early will give you an edge on students waiting until the last minute.
5. Aim high -- but not too high. If you don't meet minimum scholarship requirements, filling out the app' is just a waste of your time.
6. Spelling counts. You may hate it when teachers take off points for spelling errors, but it's good preparation since scholarship judges hate typos, too.
7. Think you're the best? That's great, but you'll need to show the judges that other people think so, too, by submitting letters of recommendation with your app'.
8. Be a little creative. Make your scholarship app' stand out in a good way -- just don't overdo it.
9. Reach out and follow-up. Check in with the scholarship organization to make sure your app' was received.
10. Say thanks. Taking the time to send a thank-you note is a great way to stand out in a good way (remember rule #8?).
