Founded in 1916, the Swedish Institute has the oldest Massage Therapy Program in the country. While the idea of using one's hands as a therapeutic agent of change has only recently received attention from the scientific community, throughout its history the Swedish Institute has endeavored to preserve the integrity of this ancient healing art, while also developing standards of practice to meet the demands of modern times.
Our program is registered with and regulated by the New York State Education Department and accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). Successful completion of the course of study qualifies graduates who meet all other state requirements to sit for the New York State licensing examination in massage therapy.
Graduates of our Massage Therapy Program are eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam (NCE) given by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
The Acupuncture Program at the Swedish Institute was established in 1996. Its curriculum is rooted in the history, applied philosophy and spirit of Classical Chinese Acupuncture. This style has its roots in the philosophy of Taoism, and is governed by principles outlined in ancient texts.
It was created under the guidance of Jeffrey C. Yuen, Dean for Academic Affairs. His experience as both a scholar and 88th generation Taoist priest has helped shape the breadth and depth of the curriculum.
Our program is registered and regulated by the New York State Education Department and is accredited by the by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). The acupuncture program is also accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).
Graduates of our Acupuncture Program are eligible for New York State Licensure following their passing the Acupuncture Certification Examinations of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and the Clean Needle Technique examination administered by the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM). |
