PROGRAMS:
AOM Program: M.S. in Acupuncture & M.S. in Oriental Medicine
Acupuncture and oriental medicine have successfully brought healing and well-being to patients for over 3,000 years. Oriental medicine offers natural, drug-free and surgery-free health care with proven clinical results. It is not a new or mysterious art, but rather a time-tested codified system of medicine, the oldest in the world.

National University of Health Sciences offers two advanced degree programs that allow graduates to bring these ancient healing arts to patients in today's modern health care environment: the Master of Science in Acupuncture (M.S.Ac.) and the Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (M.S.O.M.).
M.S. in Acupuncture
National University's Master of Science in Acupuncture (M.S.Ac.) is a 121-credit (2,505 hours), seven-trimester program. Students will be immersed in the same comprehensive training as in the Oriental Medicine program, with the exception of the study of Chinese herbal medicine. This program is ideal for health care professionals - chiropractors, nurses, physicians, physical therapists, and others - who wish to study oriental medicine comprehensively but who are not necessarily interested in becoming herbalists. As a graduate of National's M.S.Ac. Program, students may have the option of returning to NUHS to complete the Chinese herbal medicine training at a later date.
M.S. in Oriental Medicine
The Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (M.S.O.M.) is a 167.5-credit (3,367.5 hours) nine-trimester program. The program provides comprehensive training in the Five Branches of Oriental Medicine (acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, oriental nutrition and dietary therapy, Tuina, and Qigong and Tai Chi) providing a solid foundation in classical Chinese medical theory and practice as well as modern oriental medical theories and techniques. Students will also graduate from NUHS with a solid foundation in the basic sciences of western medicine and extensive and sustained clinical training, having developed the skills necessary for integrative and collaborative practice within hospitals and various health care settings.
Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine
As the leader in chiropractic education since 1906, National University is renowned for academic excellence, an outstanding faculty, and innovative educational leadership. It is the only chiropractic institution in the United States that requires a baccalaureate degree for admission. Because of this, National believes its students have a greater life experience, commitment and maturity that will assure their academic and professional success.

National prepares its D.C. students to become first-contact, primary care physicians with a distinctive science oriented, hands-on curriculum that provides students with a strong foundation in basic sciences and human anatomy including a full year of human dissection. In addition, National teaches more than 100 chiropractic manipulation procedures with hours of hands-on practice and complete follow-through and actual application of the technique on a real subject. The chiropractic faculty also holds weekly skills labs where students can receive additional one-on-one help in mastering each adjustment.
Chiropractic Assistant Program
National's Chiropractic Assistant Program trains individuals to help chiropractic physicians with therapeutic patient care, as well as business and practice management. This one-year program is an excellent way to become a valued professional and an integral support provider in the field of health care.

National's 310-hour curriculum requires a solid grounding in the sciences including courses in anatomy and physiology, chiropractic history and theory, clinical massage, business practices and ethics.

This program is comprised of evening courses shared with National's massage therapy certificate program, as well as two Sunday seminars (12 Sundays total) and a clinical practicum. All evening courses must be passed and all Sunday sessions must be attended and a comprehensive final examination passed to receive a CA certificate.
Massage Therapy Program
The Massage Therapy Certification Program at National University of Health Sciences emphasizes the training and skills needed to prepare individuals for a career as a valued health care professional. Students receive a solid foundation in therapy knowledge and skills and learn to think critically and provide therapy effectively in a variety of client situations.

The 690-hour curriculum requires a solid grounding in the sciences including courses in anatomy and physiology, massage theory and history, clinical massage, business practices, and ethics. A 30-contact-hour elective must be successfully completed as part of the curriculum. National's extensive facilities also provide a unique and exciting learning environment where students serve clients in diverse clinical experiences and work closely with colleagues in other health care disciplines.

Successful completion of the certificate program also fulfills more than half of the course requirements for the chiropractic assistant certificate program. In addition, students completing requisite courses at an accredited institution may apply for an Associate in Applied Science degree in conjunction with the massage certificate program.
Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic physicians are highly trained primary care doctors whose treatments bridge both conventional and natural medicine perspectives including botanical medicines, homeopathy, naturopathic manipulative techniques, clinical nutrition, acupuncture, and lifestyle counseling.

National's Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program (N.D.) encompasses a rigorous curriculum that blends a thorough scientific foundation with comprehensive training in naturopathic treatments. National's N.D. students also have the opportunity to participate in a collaborative classroom learning environment with students of chiropractic medicine, acupuncture and oriental medicine. This unique learning situation enables students of various disciplines to acquire the knowledge and respect needed to work together as natural health care professionals.
B.S. in Biomedical Sciences
The Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree completion program at National University is intense preparation for obtaining an advanced degree in a variety of health related professions. Students may choose to continue at National in one of the professional degree programs or they may pursue a graduate degree at another institution provided they meet that institution's specific requirements.

Students must complete 60 semester or 90 quarter hours in specific coursework to be considered for National's B.S. degree program. Students must have a minimum of 33 credits of general education and 27 credits of elective courses with a minimum 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Courses are offered in an accelerated eight-week format in the evening and may be completed in two years or less.
