Minnesota School of Cosmetology provides the student with a natural sense of artistry the opportunity to turn that style into a promising career. The school, formerly known as Minnesota Cosmetology Education Center, has been a respected provider of cosmetology training for over 50 years. In 2003, the school was acquired by Terry and Kaye Myhre, renamed Minnesota School of Cosmetology, and moved from South Saint Paul to a new facility in Woodbury.

Cosmetology training
We offer a complete course in Cosmetology, which is the art and science of beauty care. It involves the care of the skin, hair, scalp and nails. Students receive classes in theory, which gives them a basic scientific knowledge of various subjects such as chemistry, anatomy, physiology, hair cutting, hair styling, permanent waving, hair coloring, manicuring, facials, pin curling, roller placement, and salon management. They receive practice prior to clinic floor training.

Careers in cosmetology
After successfully completing the program and passing the state board examination, the licensed cosmetologist is prepared for career opportunities including operator, nail technician, cosmetic technician, competition or platform stylist, salon owner, or school instructor. The program is constantly updated to reflect current trends in the field of cosmetology.

Pre-clinical training skills and instruction
Before students practice in the salon setting, they receive training in business and salon management, safety and sanitation. Instruction in sciences related to cosmetology lays a foundation for instruction in shampooing, scalp and hair conditioning, hair design and shaping, chemical hair control, hair coloring, hair styling, facials and makeup and manicures. In addition to technical training, students receive instruction in communication, fashion and business and life skills.

Facilities and equipment
Our school has all equipment a student needs in order to complete the cosmetology program: good lighting, hydraulic chairs, central air conditioning, separate working stations, student lunch room, student lockers, separate classroom area and dispensary.

Academic advising
The staff provides academic advising for all students on a regular basis to discuss student concerns, progress and grades.

Career services
All students are encouraged to visit our career center to review job listings and obtain career advice from our staff. The school will assist any student or graduate in a job search, but does not guarantee a placement.
