About Us:
LA Music Academy is an intensive contemporary music education program. We were founded in 1996 by a number of prominent LA-based players who had also had significant experience providing practical, concentrated education to students over the last several decades at a variety of music education institutions. Their thought was to create a different kind of school that truly maximizes the improvement and learning that you receive in the shortest possible time.
Benefits:
- An average of 150 students attend the LA Music Academy each year. Classes are small so you can receive the full attention you deserve.
- The building’s facilities include large, modern classrooms equipped with Mackie Sound Systems, Yamaha drumsets with Zildjian cymbals, and Tech 21 guitar and Gallien-Krueger bass amps. The Recording Lab is a 625 square-foot studio-quality “floating construction” room that includes three iso-booths and a neighboring drum room. The Computer Lab is outfitted with ten 20” iMacs® and a 52” LCD monitor for instructor demonstrations. Each computer has Digidesign ProTools LE® software and an MBox2® recording interface
- Ten fully-equipped practice labs are for drummers. Five practice labs and several practice stations are for guitar and bass players, as well as vocalists
- The performance hall has room for 25 players onstage and holds an audience of 160
- Outside, the building has a sunny, tree-lined courtyard with tables, chairs, and enough outdoor space to hold impromptu jam sessions.
- The school is open 6AM - 1AM Monday-Friday and 8AM - 1AM on weekends (except during breaks and holidays)

Drums
We give students the vocational tools to go out and make a living playing drums. We get right to it. And at the same time, we give them instruction in the important areas of playing techniques and reading, harmony and theory. But really, it's a playing school. A lot of schools tend to be academically oriented, and not a lot of hands-on is accomplished. Our school dedicates itself to playing from day one, in all styles.

Guitar
In the Guitar Department specifically, we focus on teaching on three levels: Fundamental, Practical and Conceptual. The Fundamental element being the core curriculum and the backbone of a solid musical education including musicianship, harmony and theory, ear training, etc. The Practical element is essentially where the "rubber meets the road." We strive to use real world examples and context to prepare the student for the rigors of surviving in the contemporary music scene. We employ a talented group of hand-picked teachers that are working professionals and provide insight into what really works and what's going to be asked of the aspiring guitarist outside the school. We also address the Conceptual element of education, which provides exercises and assignments for further study and to stimulate creativity. It's my plan to make sure that the students get an unusually high level of material they can use immediately (or that night on the gig), along with the usual material they can use for the rest of their careers.

Vocals
The Vocals program will be the destination for singers who want to be distinguished by excellence. We’ll focus on giving vocalists the tools to "get to the music" as full partners with great instrumentalists/producers, etc. We are creating an environment where the individual voice will emerge and the program will be form-fitted to the passions of each student.
The vocalists learn to be musicians, with the same "language" that their instrumental peers know. They learn ear-training, harmony, music dictation, sight-singing and vocal technique. All of these tools prepare them for the craft of music, whether they become song-writers, producers, recording artists & educators.

Bass
We offer very focused programs that have one primary goal: to prepare the student to play and function successfully in the wide variety of "real world" situations they will encounter as working professional musicians. This means having a practical, efficient curricula that relates all the areas of study directly to developing the skills and abilities needed to play, perform, and record. Our class sizes are small enough for us to get to know each individual student and their playing. This all happens in a positive, supportive atmosphere that helps us to maximize the educational experience. Unlike many schools, we don't hire ex-students with a couple of gigs under their belts to take on the important job of teaching. The entire bass faculty are accomplished, successful pros, as well as gifted teachers. This brings a wealth of experience, insight, and understanding into the classroom. The result is a hands-on learning environment unique to LA Music Academy. Bottom line is, we know what it takes to develop as a player capable of succeeding in today's market — and we're all about preparing you to take that next step.
