Paralegal Studies
The objective of this program is to provide students with the training and technical knowledge necessary for entry-level employment as paralegals. Graduates will be able to communicate their findings and opinions effectively, both orally and in writing, and will be able to perform manual and computerized case research. They will effectively apply legal terminology, as well as perform investigative skills necessary to assist in the drafting of documents such as contracts, mortgages, separation agreements, trust instruments, tax returns, shareholder agreements, stock option plans and employee benefit plans. Graduates will understand the paralegal’s place in the legal community, and will understand as well that, except as permitted by law, paralegals do not provide legal services directly to the public.
Graduates will understand the paralegal's place in the legal community. They will know the difference between admissible and inadmissible, and relevant and irrelevant evidence. They will know how to properly question witnesses, and will understand the burden of proof in civil and criminal cases. They will be able to successfully understand and perform manual and computerized case research. Each student must complete an externship as part of the Paralegal Studies Program. A minimum of 120 hours of externship is required prior to the completion of the program.

Medical Assisting
The Medical Assisting diploma program prepares students in both administrative and clinical procedures. Administrative duties may include monitoring patient accounts and records, word processing, and scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring appointments. Clinical duties may involve applying principles of aseptic technique and infection control. Students will be prepared to record vital signs, collect and process specimens, and prepare and administer medications and immunizations. Given an industry demand for appropriately trained personnel, the Medical Assisting diploma program provides graduates with an appropriate combination of general office skills and specialized clinical training.

Medical Office Technology
The Medical Office Technology diploma program prepares students for entry-level administrative positions in the medical industry. Students will learn front office procedures such as management of patient accounts, processing medical records, word processing, and scheduling of patients. Graduates will possess strong office skills combined with the basic understanding of medical terminology, insurance and medical billing and coding practices, and legal and ethical issues. The program fosters the development of interpersonal skills, organizational effectiveness and strong written and oral communication skills necessary to function in a medical environment. Given an industry demand for appropriately trained personnel, the Medical Office Technology Diploma provides graduates with the best-suited combination of general office skills and specialized medical office training.

Computer Network Administration (CNA)
The Associate of Applied Science in Computer Network Administration is a program that prepares individuals to manage the computer operations and control the system configurations emanating from a specific site or network hub. Includes instruction in computer hardware and software and applications; local area (LAN) and wide area (WAN) networking; principles of information systems security; disk space and traffic load monitoring; data backup; resource allocation; and setup and takedown procedures.

Health Information Technology
The Associate in Applied Science in Health Information Technology is designed to prepare candidates in the professional knowledge and skills which will qualify them for employment in a healthcare facility. Graduates of the AAS in Health Information Technology should demonstrate a/an:
- Proficiency in skills such as medical terminology, communication, and professionalism
- Working knowledge of the national diagnosis and procedural coding systems (ICD and CPT-HCPC coding)
- Comprehension of the Major Diagnostic Categories (MCDs)
- Ability to analyze the Uniform Billing (UB-92) claim form
- Competence to define and assign HCPCS level 11 codes
- Working knowledge to abstract and code from medical record case studies
- Knowledge of the treatment of diseases, including pharmacological, complementary and alternative therapies
- Knowledge of Medical Practice Settings and Specialties, as well as the differences in Traditional and Managed Care.
- Knowledge and understanding of the legal and ethical responsibilities of working in a Medical facility, including HIPAA mandate

Medical Assistant

The Associate Degree of Applied Science program in Medical Assisting prepares the student for integral, multifunctional administrative and clinical roles in physicians’ practices and ambulatory care settings. Administrative duties may include preparing and maintaining medical records, scheduling and monitoring appointments, scheduling hospital admissions and procedures, diagnostic and procedural coding, submitting claims, monitoring reimbursements, and managing accounts
receivable and payable.

Clinical duties may include obtaining patient history and vital signs, assisting in procedures, examinations, and treatments, preparing and administering medications, and diagnostic testing and maintenance of the treatment area and medical equipment.

Nursing Program
The RN, Associate Degree Nursing Program is a two-year curriculum comprising classroom, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. The course of study is 104 quarter hours and designed to prepare the graduate as a beginning generalist practitioner, functioning as a provider of care, coordinator of care and as a member of the nursing profession.
The classes for this full time program include background courses such as Anatomy, Psychology, and English as well as nursing courses in professional development and client care. Educational methods used are classroom lecture, computer based instruction, hands-on skills lab, and supervised clinical experience in area hospitals and health facilities.
The program is rigorous and demanding. However, students find the supportive atmosphere of the Nursing Department enables them to successfully complete the program while maintaining other responsibilities.

Criminal Justice
Beckfield is pleased to offer students degrees in the exciting field of Criminal Justice. The instructors in the Criminal Justice Program are fully committed to your success. Beckfield offers smaller class sizes that allow instructors to know students by name to provide them with personalized instruction for success.
The Beckfield Criminal Justice Program provides skills and opportunities to pursue the various Criminal Justice careers in the marketplace. Courses including Criminal Justice and Legal Research, White Collar Crime, Crime Scene Technology & Criminalistics, Criminal Evidence, and Criminal Law will help provide students with a strong foundation to enter into the criminal justice field.
Students critically examine many of the trends and issues in Criminal Justice. In addition to highly qualified instructors, this program offers special guest speakers, field trips to offsite locations, and attendance at criminal trials and proceedings. Beckfield Criminal Justice students will also be able to work individually with the Career Placement Director to secure employment after graduation.

Hospitality Management
The objective of this program is to prepare individuals to serve as general managers and directors of hospitality operations on a system-wide basis, including both travel arrangements and promotion and the provision of traveler facilities. Includes instruction in principles of operations in the travel and tourism, hotel and lodging facilities, food services, and recreation facilities industries; hospitality marketing strategies; hospitality planning; management and coordination of franchise and unit operations; business management; accounting and financial management; hospitality transportation and logistics; and hospitality industry policies and regulations.
