Five hundred years ago, a scroll was considered a roll of parchment paper. Today, a "scroll" is the navigation feature on the margins of your computer screen. Much has changed since the days when Ignatius of Loyola founded the Society of Jesus in the 16th century, but the hallmarks of a Jesuit education have withstood the test of time.
The Jesuit education that we offer at the University of Scranton gives graduates the foundation they need to succeed in their personal, public and professional lives. The University of Scranton offers an education steeped in centuries-old traditions, yet equally rich in the most advanced techniques and technology. While the University of Scranton remains true to our Jesuit mission, this Pennsylvania college is, like St. Ignatius, continually open to new ideas, and ready to step into the future. The University of Scranton offers an education that's the "best of both worlds."
A comprehensive, co-educational institution, the University of Scranton is, by tradition, choice and heartfelt commitment, a Catholic and Jesuit university. Founded in 1888 as Saint Thomas College by the Most Reverend William G. O'Hara, D. D., the first Bishop of Scranton, it achieved university status in 1938 and was entrusted to the care of the Society of Jesus in 1942. |
