Named after John Marshall, the great Chief Justice of the United States, Marshall Academy was established in 1837. Marshall became a public university in 1961 and has since grown tremendously, particularly in the 1990's, which saw the construction of the state-of-the-art Drinko Library, Jomie Jazz Center, and the addition of the graduate education.

Marshall University is a multi-campus public university providing innovative undergraduate education and graduate education that contributes to the development of society and the individual. The University actively facilitates learning through the preservation, discovery, synthesis, and dissemination of knowledge.
