A private, independent college, LIM was founded in 1939 by Maxwell F. Marcuse, and has been witness to every significant change in the retail and fashion industries for six decades. Mr. Marcuse, advertising manager of Macy's and a trustee of City College, Hunter College and Brooklyn College as well as a published author, was asked by the leading retailers of the day to use his extensive background in retailing and education to create a school for the business of fashion and merchandising. From the beginning, Mr. Marcuse incorporated hands-on training, guest lecturers and practical work experience in the industry -- pioneering ideas over 60 years ago. LIM has evolved into a four-year college, the first private specialized college of fashion business-related studies ever to be accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the primary collegiate accrediting agency in the region. |
