A challenging and rewarding Ivy League university experience awaits students at the Harvard Summer School. As part of America's oldest and most prestigious university, the Harvard Summer School offers open admission in several hundred day and evening liberal arts courses, in addition to English language programs for non-native speakers (see Institute for English Language Programs), a selective college-level program for secondary school students (see Secondary School Program), opportunities for study abroad, and many events and extracurricular activities. Students will have access to a distinguished faculty, well-equipped labs, exceptional museums, and the largest university library system in the world. Harvard Summer School students of many ages from all areas of the United States and more than 90 countries live and learn together as they satisfy their intellectual curiosities, earn college credit, and explore Harvard University.
 
 
Quick Facts:
  • The Summer School is open to all individuals interested in a first-rate academic experience. With the exception of certain special courses and programs, courses are open admission, which means that no transcripts, letters of recommendation, or essays are required.
  • Harvard Summer School courses are demanding. In 4-unit courses, an entire semester's worth of coursework is condensed into eight weeks; in 8-unit courses two semesters' worth of coursework is completed.
  • Some Arts and Sciences faculty teach the same course in Summer School that they teach at Harvard during the academic year.
  • Other Summer School courses are taught by distinguished instructors from universities throughout the world.
  • Each summer several hundred students from many backgrounds come to the Harvard Summer School for intensive, noncredit language study in classes offered by the Institute for English Language Programs (IEL).
  • Harvard Summer School courses and credits are accepted toward degrees at most colleges and universities.
  • The Summer School offers high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors an opportunity to sample college through the Secondary School Program.
