Cameron University is a multipurpose regional university whose mission is to offer dynamic education programs to those living in its service area, which includes 11 counties of Southwest Oklahoma. One of Oklahoma's seven regional universities, Cameron University is the higher education center of Southwest Oklahoma.
Once at the edge of a city, Cameron University has been engulfed by Lawton, Oklahoma, a growing city with a population of more than 111,000. The city surrounding this regional university offers cultural enjoyment through the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lawton Community Theatre, the Museum of the Great Plains, and various art shows, including the Arts for All Festival in the spring.
Lawton's neighbor, Fort Sill, joins people from around the country and across the world as the nation's field artillery center. There, students of this regional university can experience the history of the West by visiting the holding cell and grave of Geronimo, the famous Chiricahua Apache warrior.
Just northwest of Lawton, Cameron University students can enjoy the relaxation of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Camping, hiking, fishing, and other recreational activities offer Oklahoma university students a weekend break from studying. Or bring your books along and peek up every once in a while to catch a glimpse of the deer, birds, elk, and buffalo that abound in the Wichitas.
Cameron University recognizes that the education process includes the development of the intellectual, cultural, social, physical, moral, and occupational capacities of those who participate in its programs and activities. This Oklahoma university desires to assist its students and others living in its service area in acquiring the skills, knowledge, values, and attitudes that will enable them to lead creative, productive, and fulfilling lives. |
