Brigham Young University is famous among Utah universities and located in Provo, Utah, a city of approximately 111,000 located 45 miles south of Salt Lake City and 4,560 feet above sea level at the western base of the Wasatch Mountains. Provo sits in the Utah Valley, which offers a beautiful setting for its population of nearly 440,000, with 23-mile-long Utah Lake on the west and 11,750-foot Mount Timpanogos on the east.

The university's approximately 560-acre campus includes 315 buildings: 97 for academic programs, 59 for administrative and physical plant services and 159 for housing.

Many academic and professional programs are augmented by internships and career-related summer jobs. For winter semester 2006, bachelor's degrees are offered in 184 academic programs, master's degrees in 68, doctorates in 25 and juris doctorates in one.
