Beacon College was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) institution for higher learning on May 24, 1989. The concept for the College was put forth by a group of parents concerned about higher education opportunities for students with learning disabilities. Responding to this concern, the initial trustees founded Beacon College. The College embraces the student with learning disabilities by providing educational opportunities that acknowledge individual learning differences.

  • Beacon College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Human Services and Liberal Studies.
  • Beacon College is located in Leesburg, Florida, approximately 50 miles northwest of Orlando. The Orlando International Airport accommodates students traveling from a distance to our campus.
  • The Beacon College Village Apartments serve as the College's residence halls, and provide the opportunity for students to live in a community setting while attending college. The Beacon College Village Apartments have a swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, and gazebo to provide student activities on campus.
  • Beacon College serves high school graduates, those who have earned their GED, and college transfer students with documented learning disabilities who have proven academic potential.
  • Class sizes, which average just 10-12 students, are kept very small to ensure that you get as much individualized attention from your instructors as you need.
  • All Beacon College instructors have masters or doctorates in their academic disciplines. The instructors are dedicated to educational teaching techniques that enhance the learning process.
  • Academic mentors are professionals with degrees or training in learning disabilities who work with you individually to focus on your individual learning style while incorporating the tools necessary to become a self-sufficient and successful learner.
