Founded in 1916, Avila University is a private, coeducational, Catholic university sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the academic program at Avila University prepares students for lifelong contributions to the global community.

Avila University offers more than 60 undergraduate majors, including popular programs in business, education, nursing, radiology, communication, psychology, and art. At the graduate level, students can pursue their Masters of Business Administration, Master of Science, or Master of Arts in Education in a range of concentrations. Avila University offers flexible scheduling for adult students, and all students have access to free tutoring, counseling services, and career development.

Five women's teams and four men's teams compete for the Avila University Eagles, along with a cheerleading squad and dance team. Students can also participate in various campus activities including honor societies, professional organizations, performing arts, campus ministry, and student senate.
