Western New England University was founded in 1919 and is a private, independent, coeducational college. The school is located on a suburban main campus in Springfield, Massachusetts, and six other satellite sites throughout Massachusetts. WNEU's small, non-residential satellite campuses are located in Devens, Bedford, Braintree, Malden, New Bedford and Norwood, Massachusetts.

Western New England University offers more than 34 Bachelor's programs through its schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, and Engineering. WNEU's graduate programs range from certificates to Master's degrees and advanced law degrees. The college is also building upon A School of Pharmacy that will offer students a six-year program and is slated to be completed in 2009. WNEU's School of Law offers full- and part-time J.D. programs as well as a part-time LL.M. program in Estate Planning.

There are over 60 clubs and organizations available on campus, including honor societies, media and publications, special interest groups, Student Senate, Campus Ministry and others. Western New England University's academic department also consists of 19 NCAA-sponsored varsity sports and is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III.
