Founded in 1972, Wayne College serves the areas of Wayne, Medina and Holmes counties in Ohio and operates as the only regional branch of The University of Akron to offer general education in the form of associate degrees and baccalaureate-oriented preparation, technical education programs, and continuing education experiences. The school is authorized by the State of Ohio through the Ohio State Board of Regents. Associate degrees at the University of Akron Wayne College are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Degree programs are offered for Associate of Arts and Sciences with bachelor degree preparation for a variety of programs included business administration and education. Technical education programs are offered in business management technology, educational paraprofessional, health care office management, social service technology and office technology.
Wayne College strives to provide accessible credit and noncredit educational opportunities to the citizens of the counties its serves through high-quality teaching, programs, services and state-of-the-art technology and facilities. Faculty at Wayne College include more than 30 full-time members who on average hold a minimum of a master's degree with 20 semester hours of additional coursework and 12 years of teaching experience. More than half hold doctorate degrees and the average student-to-faculty ratio is 12:1. The average class size is 18 students. The college offers day and evening classes with special sessions for their Weekend College section.
The college operates out of one primary and several smaller buildings consisting of approximately 200,000 square feet on a campus of 160 acres on the north edge of the city of Orrville. Currently working on a twenty-year development plan for the campus and facilities, the College has maintained a high degree of technical currency in its classrooms, labs, and other facilities. The College has a state-of-the-art distance learning classroom and more than 200 student-accessible computers on campus.
