Ventura College
4667 Telegraph Road
Ventura, CA 93003
Although Ventura College is currently situated on a 112-acre campus in a lovely seaside community, its history reaches back to the founding of the Ventura Junior College Department of Ventura High School, in 1925. Back then, when its doors first opened, only 22 students were in attendance. Today, however, more than 13,000 students are enrolled at Ventura College.
Besides size and location, another change that Ventura College has undergone involves the type of education it offers. When it was a part of the high school, this California college's mission was to provide students with the first two years of college so that they could then transfer into a bachelor's program at a traditional four-year college or university. Since then Ventura College has grown and evolved to include many more types and levels of programs.
Now, in correlation with its status as a two-year institution of higher learning, this California college offers students the opportunity to earn a Certificate of Completion, Certificate of Achievement, Associate in Science Degree, and Associate in Arts Degree. Programs themselves range from such topics as astronomy, business, journalism, psychology, and international studies, to health science administration, agricultural plant science, physical education, Asian American studies, and real estate.
