The University of Houston - Downtown, founded in 1974, is a state-funded, public university, contained in connected, multi-story buildings on the northern end of Houston's central business district. The urban university has an open admissions policy at the undergraduate level and boasts more than 11,500 enrolled students.

One of four distinct universities in the University of Houston System, the urban university offers both undergraduate and a limited number of graduate academic degree programs.

Flexibility is a key component of the University of Houston - Downtown's success. Courses are available through daytime, evening and weekend classes. Distance education classes are available online, via live, interactive videoconferences, and at a variety of off-campus locations.
