Thomas Edison State College is a college located in Trenton, New Jersey designed specifically for the needs of adults wanting to complete their degrees. Thomas Edison State College is one of the state of New Jersey's one dozen public colleges and one of the oldest in the nation designed specifically for adults.
Thomas Edison State College was established in 1972 and today, offers more than degree and certificate programs in more than 100 areas. Students at Thomas Edison State College can attend school from anywhere in the world. More than 16,000 students per year enroll at Thomas Edison State College from all 50 states and more than 70 countries. Students entering Thomas Edison State College, either online or on campus, can transfer credits a variety of ways by taking the Prior Learning Assessment. Untraditional ways to transfer college credit include using corporate or military training experience, examination programs or other life experiences. Thomas Edison State College has been recognized by the New Jersey State Senate for the services it provides to U.S. military veterans.
Students may earn a certificate or Associate, Bachelor's or Master's degree in a multitude of areas of study including: accounting, administration of justice, administrative studies, air traffic control, international business, internet design, journalism, paralegal studies, philosophy, real estate, religion, social sciences, theater arts and video game design. For undergraduate students, new terms start each month, allowing students to start based on their own personal schedules and not that of a traditional academic calendar. Programs for graduate students begin each quarter. Students taking classes online have a wealth of student services available online, including enrolling, consulting with an advisor and developing a program to complete the degree, applying for financial aid and purchasing books. Online students also have access to the New Jersey State Library system, as well as VALE, Virtual Academic Library Environment.
Students attending classes on the campus at Thomas Edison State College do so in a historic district located adjacent to New Jersey's State House complex. The campus consists of the Kelsey Building and Townhouse Complex, The Academic Center, The Canal Banks Building and Kuser Mansion, where the John S. Watson Institute for Public Policy is housed.
