The College of New Jersey is a liberal arts college located on a 289-acre campus just five miles from Trenton in Ewing, New Jersey. Founded in 1855 as the New Jersey State Normal School - so named for a teaching method that originated in France - The College of New Jersey today is a leading institution of higher learning in the state.

As a normal school, the school was the first teaching college in the state of New Jersey and only the ninth in the United States at the time. In 1925, the school began offering Bachelor's Degrees. Two decades later, Master's degrees were approved for the college and by the 1960s the college expanded to offer other degree programs. By 1972, 70 percent of incoming students were selecting non-teaching majors.

Ranked as one of the 75 Most Competitive Schools in the nation by Barron's Profiles of American Colleges, and the number one public institution in the northern region by U.S. News and World Report, The College of New Jersey now offers more than 50 degree and professional programs to more than 5,500 students per year in seven schools: Art, Media and Music; Business; Culture and Society; Education; Science, Nursing, Health and Exercise Science and Engineering. The College of New Jersey also has first year student and honors programs.

Students who wish to study abroad, students can choose to spend a semester or a year in Australia, Africa, Asia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Europe, Middle East, North America, Central America or South America. Students may also apply for teaching abroad and internship programs.

Approximately 95 percent of freshmen live in one of the 14 residence halls on campus and housing is guaranteed for the first two years.

  • There are more than 150 student organizations and clubs in which students at The College of New Jersey can become involved. There are also more than 25 Greek fraternities and sororities.

  • Students may participate in a number of intramural sports at The College of New Jersey including Men's and women's rugby; men's ice hockey and lacrosse; women's soccer and field hockey; softball, volleyball, basketball, fencing, martial arts, tennis, racquetball, rock climbing, canoeing, skiing, indoor jogging, fitness training, whitewater rafting, co-ed flag football. Students may also keep fit by heading to the aquatics or the fitness centers.
