As a part of the Virginia Community College system, Southwest Virginia Community College provides one- and two-year degree and diploma programs designed to help Virginia students get ahead in their career. Nestled on 100 acres of rolling Virginia hills, the school's rural location is the perfect place for students to begin their educational path. Southwest Virginia's campus houses more than 80 programs of study including associate degree and professional certificate programs. The school provides a flexible schedule of classes, offering courses in both the day and evening as well as online, and provides job search assistance for students approaching graduation. Additionally, Southwest Virginia Community College also operates an extensive continuing education department, customized training courses for local businesses, and a Small Business Development Center to help local entrepreneurs get their companies off the ground.
On top of offering degree and diploma options, Southwest Virginia Community College also offers academic support services to help students successfully complete their program of study. All students will have access to free academic advising, personal counseling, financial aid advising, disability support services, and veterans services. The Learning Assistance Center provides no-charge skills assessment testing as well as computer training while the Educational Opportunities Center provides additional support services for low-income, first-generation, and veteran college students.
Southwest Virginia Community College is home to a lively campus environment. From athletic activities to the student government association, enrollees have myriad ways to get involved on campus. Southwest currently hosts 20 student-run clubs and organizations. These groups range from volunteer organizations to campus chapters of professional associations to a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa international honors society for two-year college students. The Appalachian Arts Center is also located just three miles from the main campus of Southwest Virginia Community College. The 4,000 square foot facility serves as both an exhibition space and a marketplace featuring the work of local crafts people and fine artists.
