Skidmore College is a small liberal arts college located in Saratoga Springs, New York. Established in 1903, Newsweek Magazine recently named Skidmore College one of the 25 "New Ivies."
More than 2,400 students enroll at Skidmore College each year. There are more than 40 academic departments. Bachelor's degree programs include American studies, history, international affairs, law and society, religious studies, social work, physics, sociology, women's studies and theater, among others.
Skidmore College also offers a graduate program that will earn students a Master of Art in liberal studies. The self-directed master program requires an introductory week-long seminar on campus. Then, students can take up to two-and-a-half years to complete the degree studying part-time. The program is geared for working adults who want to complete a graduate degree.
Students may live on campus in one of the residential halls. One of the centerpieces of the campus is the Tang Museum. The Tang Museum has been designated a "teaching museum" and is central to a Skidmore student's education. Through exhibits, performing arts and humanities, Skidmore College students are exposed to a wide variety of art disciplines.
The study abroad program at Skidmore College is a leading reason in which some of the students attend the school. Almost 60 percent of Skidmore's 2007 graduating class chose to study abroad for a semester or a year. Skidmore also ranked 15th in a list compiled of the top 40 baccalaureate schools in terms of participation in study abroad programs. Skidmore College students can choose to study in one of more than 40 countries, or one of 200 other campuses in the United States and its territories.
