A Catholic, coeducational school of the liberal arts, Saint Francis University is located in Loretto, Pennsylvania, and began its existence in 1847. Rooted in the values and traditions inspired by Saint Francis of Assisi, this Pennsylvania university is sponsored by the Franciscans of the Third Order Regular. Saint Francis University equips students with intellectual, cultural and moral understandings of the past, confronts them with the current challenges of modern life, while preparing them to forge productive and generous futures for themselves and society. As part of its adherence to Catholic traditions, Saint Francis University promotes a universal reverence for life and human goodness, as well as service to the poor.
Saint Francis University conducts undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs. The Pennsylvania university's undergraduate college offers about 25 majors, conferring bachelor's degrees in the arts and sciences, in addition to associate degrees in science and applied science. The graduate programs offer more than a half-dozen majors, conferring a variety of master's degrees and a doctorate of physical therapy. The average class size is approximately 22 students. Saint Francis University has almost 100 full-time faculty members, nearly fifty of which hold tenure.
Saint Francis University's 600-acre campus is made up of an expanse of 23 structures, including nine residence halls and many opportunities for outdoor recreation. The center for student life supervises over 60 student-run organizations, clubs, sororities and fraternities. This Pennsylvania university operates more than 20 men's and women's athletic teams, competing within Division I of the NCAA.
